The author, a long-time researcher of tourism, faced a challenge: how to scientifically explain the relationship between the activities that are excluded – violence, terrorism and war are completely opposite to the peaceful essence of tourism. He clearly and expertly presented the profile of modern tourism and its importance for many countries and its current environment, full of conflicts. Special attention was paid to the impact of the war in the former Yugoslavia on Croatian tourism. He also offered his own suggestions on what to do to maintain and improve it.
